Yasmeen Arif

Yasmeen Arif is Professor in Sociology at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Shiv Nadar University (Delhi NCR). Prior to this, she has taught sociology for more than a decade at the Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi. Her book 'Life, Emergent: The Social in the Afterlives of Violence' (2016, University of Minnesota Press explores a politics of life across multiple global conditions of mass violence. More recently, Yasmeen Arif published 'Event and Everyday: Empiricisms and Epistemologies' (2024), an edited volume based on a decade long graduate research methods and theory seminar, where the idea of event as method is explored over various themes. Her current writing is a book on the bio-political critique of the government of identity. Other ongoing research areas include the city and urban studies, computational technologies and themes in AI, international law and humanitarianisms, aesthetics and visuality.
