Clémence Schantz
Clémence Schantz is a sociologist and midwife, research fellow at the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD) – Ceped UMR 196. Her research mainly focuses on cancers in West Africa and South-East Asia, and she is leading the SENOVIE project “Therapeutic mobilities and breast cancers” funded by the Institut Convergences et Migrations (ICM - 2021–2023), Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF - 2022-2025) and the National Cancer Institute (INCa – 2022-2025). She also conducts research on anti-HPV vaccination in France (mainland and Reunion Island). Finally, her research focuses on maternal health through the biomedicalization of childbirth in different contexts (Cambodia, Mali, Benin, France), on women's demands (in particular through the concept of "obstetric violence") and on the alternatives proposed (birthing centers and “humanized” birthing projects).
